It’s no secret that bad posture can do a number on your back and neck. But did you know that bad posture leads to a variety of other issues?
Health issues, emotional dysregulation, and pain all come from bad posture. If you have bad posture, you may be surprised by how many issues can be traced back to your back!
Why is posture so important?
It’s not difficult to find yourself in bad posture. Just sitting in an awkward position is enough to start this bad habit. Even being on your phone, tablet, or laptop can damage your neck, leading to bad posture.
Bad posture can lead to issues like improper muscle use, organ decline, and painful aches all over the body. Even your emotions are affected when you don’t prioritize your posture!
Think about it like this– your spine basically holds your entire body together. If you’re sitting or standing improperly for too long, the damage can reach many other parts of your body.
So, remember: If you have bad posture, it’s not just your back and neck that are at risk!
What is good posture?
It’s important to keep all 33 vertebrae aligned or “stacked” on top of each other. If your spine leans to the left or right, that may lead to serious issues over time.
There are three natural curves in your back: your neck, your shoulders, and the small of your back. The curves in your spine are vital to protect your body from physical stress, like jumping, walking, and running.
If you have bad posture, focus on keeping your center of gravity central to your base of support. Focus on straightening your neck, relaxing your shoulders, and centering your gravity while standing. If you’re sitting, focus on keeping your legs at a right angle and your feet flat on the ground.
Soon your muscle pain will melt away, and maybe even a few other symptoms too! You’ll be amazed at how much your posture affects your health.
