Utilize that Large Closet for More

There are many options when it comes to converting a large closet to a new space. You may have a large closet that you looked at and thought, “We could use this space for more.” You could use the space as a shared space or convert it completely to a new space.

1. Craft Room

Add a desk or table to the space, some small cabinets for storage, and some lighting, and you can easily convert your closet into a craft space. It’s a great place for this hobby because you can close the door when you are done, and crafting can get creative and, at times, messy. Why not keep it in a space that’s perfect for crafting.

2. Meditation Room

A closet is the perfect place to create a meditation room. Connect with your mind, body, and soul in this special room. It will be the place where you let the daily stresses of life leave you. Make this space feel good to you with paint that you enjoy, a comfy, quiet place to sit, and make it clean and uncluttered. Decorate it so it feels cozy and inviting, and add some music to the space so you can relax.

4. Office

A closet is also a perfect space for an office. Add a desk and chair and any other elements you may need to stay organized. It’s a great place to go when needed and then close the door and leave when you aren’t. There are so many options when creating an office out of a closet. You could convert the entire space or just a small piece of it.

5. Nursery

If you have a large closet that is off of your master bedroom or easy to access, it makes a great nursery for a new baby. You could put the crib inside the closet and have a perfect quiet space for a new baby or growing toddler. A baby wants to be near you, and you want to be able to access their room quickly; why not just put the baby’s new space in your bedroom closet. You can convert the entire closet or leave your clothes and change part of it for the baby. What better way to noise cancel than an entire room of clothing. Make sure it’s safe for the baby and has good airflow when looking at converting this room.

5. Laundry Room

You may already have a laundry room on one level. If you have a large closet on a second floor, you could always convert it to a second laundry room. Imagine having a laundry room in your master closet. You could just throw all the clothes in from your day and wash them right there. Buying stackable machines will help with space. This could also help if it’s on the second floor because you won’t have to go up and down with laundry.

6. Reading lounge

Set up a place for you to go and relax and sit and read. Add a comfy chair and space for you. It’s nice to get away from the noise of the home and go to your space and relax. A large closet would be perfect for this. You could convert a space as a reading nook or turn the closet into your own personal library.

When converting your closet, analyze what you feel would be the best usage of space. Don’t be afraid to keep the space used for two purposes. Start by removing and organizing the space. Take this time to paint the walls if needed and add any items like electrical cords. With some inspiration and a little work, you will have the space you love.
